As discussed at the general meeting on tuesday all of the committee positions will be up for nominations at this years AGM which will be held sometime before easter. To give anyone who is interested in a position on committee time to think about it i am going to give a list of all the positions and a brief description about the role (taken from the club constitution). A position on committee is not something to be taken lightly. You will have jobs to do to help run the club and we expect a certain amount of comitment. We will be asking for nominations closer to the time but like I said, all the positions are up for nomination and we will have a proper hustings at the AGM where all the nominees can tell us why they want the job and what they will bring to the role. The membership will vote for who they think will do the best job.


Chairman: Shall oversee the running of the Club, preside at all meetings and ensure that they are properly conducted. Shall be the principle Loughborough Students representative to the FCGC. In his/her absence, a member of the Club’s Committee shall take the chair. (ideally the chair should have some previous experience and knowledge about the sport)

Secretary: Shall give notice of all Committee and General Meetings and take the minutes of each. Shall be responsible for the dissemination of information to members and any correspondence thereto. In conjunction with the Treasurer, shall be responsible for the upkeep of membership records.

Treasurer: Shall be responsible for the upkeep of the Club’s accounts in accordance with Loughborough Students’ Athletic Union policies. Shall also be the Club’s signatory for any cheques issued from the Club’s private account (these cheques also to be countersigned by either the Athletic Union President or Athletic Union Sports Administrator).

Aircraft/Equipment Officer: Shall ensure the serviceability of all Club equipment. Shall ensure that all LSU aircraft hold validated Certificates of Airworthiness and insurance applicable with the aircraft type. Shall ensure that all mandatory flying records are kept up-to-date. Shall be the BGA’s and FCGC’s principal contact for technical matters. (ideally the Aircraft/Equipment officer should have some previous experience and knowledge about the sport)

Training Secretary: Shall co-ordinate flying training at RAF Wittering. Shall also organise transport for those members flying. Shall organize expeditions and training courses with the committee’s approval.

Social Secretary: Shall co-ordinate social events during term time, and at other times with the Committee's approval.

Press and Publicity: Shall publicise events as well as results from gliding competitions involving members.

Webmaser: Shall keep the club website up to date with current information, news, pictures etc.

Hello again everyone. The AGM is approaching so its time to think about committee positions again. This year there we have a lot of very enthusiastic and committed members in the club and we hope that some of you will want to help develop and run the club so we can improve it even more for next year. A position on committee not only carries a lot of responsibility but also looks great on a CV. We are not a massive club but there are still plenty of things to do.

If you are interested then please have a look at the list in my previous post to find out more about each position and see what you think you would be best at. We need to start knowing who would like to run for what so please post on here or email me if you would prefer. All the positions are up for grabs and obviously more than one person can run for a position. At the AGM we will have a hustings where all the candidates will briefly tell the membership why they think they want to do the job and why they would be best. The candidates will leave the room and we vote for who we think will do the best job.

It is a great opportunity and something that I think allows you to get even more out of the club whilst giving something back. Look forward to hearing back from you.
